Chase Gassaway to play at Austin’s One-2-One Bar tonight

Singer-songwriter to step in for sick Malia Grace tonight for 11 p.m. show

Certain Circles crooner delivers eclectic set full of engaging lyrics

WHAT: A bout with illness has forced Malia Grace to remove herself from what would have been the first of her December engagement’s at Austin’s One-2-One Bar tonight – to sing songs from up upcoming untitled debut EP, but live music fans need not worry. Local singer-songwriter Chase Gassaway has stepped in to fill the gap and will be entertaining patrons with songs from his growing library of music, which includes the EP Certain Circles. Released in 2014 The Austin Chronicle asked if Gassaway could be the next Bob Schneider in its review of the album, which it gave three stars (out of four) extolling its, “message of hope and inspiration,” and calling it’s mix of upbeat mix of roots-rock, folk and piano delightfully infectious. Grace will return to the One-2-One stage Dec. 29.

WHO: A lifelong Texan, Gassaway is trained in classical guitar and voice, and plays a variety of instruments from banjolele to reed organ. His training, and the onstage lessons he’s learned as a solo performer and member of groups such as Canaries in the Coal Mine and formally the Matchmaker Band, has resulted in multi-textured pop songs that recall the Head & the Heart and Ben Folds. In a Chase Gassaway song, it’s not unusual to hear strings, horns, woodwinds and piano accompanying Gassaway’s engaging lyrics and slightly husky vocals.
